About

Biography

Dr. Maria Thanjan is assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine and assistant attending pediatrician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, where she is also the Director of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens.

Dr. Thanjan is dedicated to treating children with congenital heart disease. As a mother and a survivor of congenital heart disease herself, she has a unique perspective in counseling her patients and their families. She has a particular interest in pediatric echocardiography and cardiac imaging, and specializes in fetal echocardiography, allowing her to make the diagnosis of congenital heart lesions prenatally. Dr. Thanjan feels it is her goal as a pediatric cardiologist to empower families and patients to make the best, most educated decisions in the management of their condition.

Her medical education began at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at the City University of New York, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Science.  Dr. Thanjan then completed her medical school training at SUNY-Downstate University Medical Center where she received her MD, and also completed her pediatric residency. She went on to fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at Mount Sinai Hospital.  She is board certified in Pediatrics.
